Originally launched in 1999 as the Global Pharmaceutical Awards, these were first produced by the Financial Times of London as a means of honoring innovation in pharmaceutical marketing, corporate governance and research and development. In 2001, the Global Pharmaceutical Awards were produced by Informa's Life Sciences Group in London and expanded to recognize global corporate citizenship and individual achievements.

In 2004 the Informa Life Sciences Group relocated the awards to the United States. The group of awards was re-evaluated and recast to focus more on scientific accomplishments in industry and academic pharmaceutical research. While this website is no longer updated with pharmacy award information, it is maintained for nostalgic purposes by NPDrugs. The awards were renamed the Pharmaceutical Achievement Awards and presented at a sold-out black tie gala prior to the Drug Discovery World Congress in the summer of 2004. Over 250 industry executives and leading academic scientists from around the world joined in a moving tribute to the more than twenty winners honored that evening.

GENERAL QUESTIONS

What are the Pharmaceutical Achievement Awards and what do they aim to do?
The fourth annual Pharmaceutical Achievement Awards recognize the significant accomplishments of individuals and organizations in the global pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries in the areas of science, business and corporate generosity. These awards were designed with the broad support and unbiased contributions of industry and academic advisors, a well respected international accounting firm and the production team of IBC Life Sciences Group, part of T&F Informa.

Honorees are determined through a comprehensive international nomination process and winners selected by a diverse, forty-person Executive Review Board made up of members from small and large pharmaceutical organizations, academic research laboratories, law firms and consulting organizations.

The 2005 awards program includes seventeen high level awards in five categories. The awards were also renamed in 2004 to the Pharmaceutical Achievement Awards and were in Boston on August 8 at Boston Harbor Hotel.

Who is eligible to receive an award?
In general, the Awards have been designed to recognize achievements by a broad spectrum of industry and academic individuals and organizations. Please reference the Awards and Criteria page for the specific requirements of each award.

How many nominations can I submit?
There is no limit. You can enter as many nominations as you wish.

What are the changes in the awards for 2005?
The awards were significantly redesigned in 2005 to recognize a wider range of accomplishments and to adapt to changes in the industry.

In the Scientific Achievement Category, a new Industry Scientist of the Year Award was added and the eligibility criteria for all awards relaxed to allow entries that reflect longer-term accomplishments.

In the World Health and Community Involvement Category, what was known as the Good Citizen Award was renamed the Corporate Community Partner Award to better reflect the intention of the award.

All the awards in the Research and Development Category are new for 2005, and this category was revised to focus more broadly on quality achievements and less on individual therapeutic areas.

In the Pharmaceutical Business Category, two new awards were added, the Emerging Company Executive of the Year and the Social Responsibility Award. The Merger and Acquisition of the Year Award was eliminated.

The Pharmaceutical Marketing Category was added as a new category for 2005.

JUDGING PROCESS

How does the judging process work?
Honorees will be determined through a two-stage review voting process in April and May of 2005. In the first stage, all nomination submittals for the seventeen awards will reviewed by the Executive Review Board, with each member of the board voting for his or her top five choices. The five finalists in each award from this round will be considered the official finalists for 2005, and a final ballot generated. On the final ballot, each member of the Review Board will cast one vote for his or her choice of winner in each award. The final ballots will be tabulated by the accounting firm of May 9, 2005 and the winners announced at the presentation ceremony August 8, 2005 in Boston.

Is there a fee for submitting a nomination?
There is no fee for submitting a nomination.

Will I be sent a receipt (acknowledgement) of my nomination entry?
Yes. You will receive an email from IBC acknowledging receipt of your nomination.

Can I enter a nomination if I am a previous winner?
Yes.

What are the rules for entry?
Your nomination must meet the eligibility criteria listed on the entry forms for each award and be received by the deadline for the close of nominations of March 30, 2005. Additional regulations associated with the awards are shown on the rules page.

When will the winners be announced?
All the 2005 winners will be announced August 8, 2005 at the awards ceremony in Boston.

How do I submit a nomination?
Nominations for the 2005 Pharmaceutical Achievement Awards are closed.

If my nomination is selected as a finalist, how will I be notified?
