In 2001, the Global Pharmaceutical Awards were produced by Informa's Life Sciences Group in London and expanded to recognize global corporate citizenship and individual achievements. In 2004 the Informa Life Sciences Group relocated the awards to the United States. The group of awards was re-evaluated and recast to focus more on scientific accomplishments in industry and academic pharmaceutical research. In the Scientific Achievement Category, a new Industry Scientist of the Year Award was added and the eligibility criteria for all awards relaxed to allow entries that reflect longer-term accomplishments. In the World Health and Community Involvement Category, what was known as the Good Citizen Award was renamed the Corporate Community Partner Award to better reflect the intention of the award. All the awards in the Research and Development Category are new for 2005, and this category was revised to focus more broadly on quality achievements and less on individual therapeutic areas.
